Code Wars 2008 Downloads

Post talking about Code Wars 2008 would be coming soon, but first I thought I should go ahead and put the question papers for download. (A lot of people have been waiting for it eagerly.) I won’t do much discussion of the papers here. All of these are zipped files, and contain all stages of the event (wherever applicable).

I would love to have feedback from people on how you think the papers were. Especially the quiz and the crossword (because those were made by me). More discussion on those in my later post.

I’m also uploading some of the best digital imaging entries we received. The topic was ‘Eric Cartman for President 2012’.

Hey! I checked out the results on the code-warriors website….Apeejay School has come on the 6th place(75 75)….but I don’t remember my school winning anything…so I just want to ask how have you made the point tally?

@Nishant: Oops! I was copy-pasting from last year’s result table for formatting and forgot to remove that entry. Thanks for pointing out the error!

@Karmanya: I’ll check out the Warp paper. About Infinite Bounce, for one, it speeds up things more than Direct & Passing. I also believe it is much more fair. Say there are a few weak teams before a strong team in the order of passing. The strong team keeps on getting all the passes and scores. A second strong team after the first strong team thus loses those passes. Infinite Bounce eliminates this bias.

Nice quiz! Lost by just 5 points to Xaviers 🙁 We knew that Spore [DRM] answer and Mosaic too. Even Crysis has a DRM, but not the one like Spore.

The quiz was not impossible, though. Mridul gave a good Epoch answer. The temple question was awesome! Is it for real? Jimi Hendrix outplayed us, though.

And what was that s/w about taking a break which popped up during the quiz?

And did you make the quiz on OpenOffice.org again?!?

@Aditya: Your team performed really well. Seriously, congratulations once again. 🙂 Jimi and St Xavier’s did pretty well too.

Too bad that luck wasn’t on your side with Spore / Mosaic. Again you guys got unlucky missing out a few answers in the crossword. Mridul’s answer on the Unix Epoch was superb – that was one which I didn’t think anyone would be able to crack – but he did.

Yup, the temple’s for real. 😉 Didn’t you see the photographic evidence? 🙂

That software which popped up prompting to take a break was Workrave. More about it here – https://ankurb.net/2008/09/11/two-too-useful-software-for-windows/

I initially tried to make the quiz in OpenOffice.org, and in fact I had entered in quite a few questions. I closed the program after saving once, and after I opened it everything was gone! All text gone, and the slides were replaced with blank white colored ones – except for the 6×9 logo which was left intact. I decided not to take any chances and re-did the whole thing in Office 2007. Later I exported the presentation to PDF using OO.org (since all might not have Office 2007).

I know it’s tedious…but could you upload the winning website in the WebD event…plz?

Seriously, there is a limit. the crossword is TOO difficult. Whoever answered more than half the questions must have devoted his lifestyle to quizzing. quiz was good, but the crossword seems like a way of you saying “see? you dont know this, but i do.”

@Siddharth: I didn’t conduct the programming event, so unfortunately I do not have the solutions to that. I’ll check up with the guy who made the paper though.

@Nishant: Uh, I’ll have to see. Setting up an external website would be pain. Probably not. We received very few entries in web designing, and even within that we weren’t really happy with what we got. Practically nobody seems to have spent much time making the site.

@Pulkit: Hmm. Nobody did answer more than half the questions – highest was 13. But the terms used were – according to me – stuff people should know; in fact people did know when I told the answer. I think the main ‘problem’ here was that we were unable to give too much time to participants to solve. Maybe they’d have been able to crack more had they been given more time.
