GMail opens its doors

Gmail is gonna be toast now. It opened its signup process to everyone today, and I think there’ll be a huge rush. Go grab you ID before it’s gone!

Anyway, without big ads, nobody does click on the text ads, they’re totally ignored, I think GMail ain’t gonna be making much money. After all, I think that Google will have to bankroll it from the billions it makes out of ads in its search results.

In more bad news, major Hollywood studios are thinking of suing it for promoting piracy. And from what it looks like, Google won’t have much defense.

Y! Messenger in Mail – coming soon!

I simply can’t wait to get my hand on this – something ripped off from Google, yes, but far far more powerful because, you bet, Yahoo! Messenger has far more users than anyone else. I’m just waiting for the update to trickle down to my farm of Y! Mail servers! And then, thou shalt have a review of that. For now, read this post on Y! Mail Updates Blog:

At the Web 2.0 conference in November, we took the wraps off of one of our newest, coolest features: Yahoo! Messenger integrated with Yahoo! Mail Beta. But, that was just a preview of what was to come. Today, we will start to release this exciting new feature. But, we’ll be rolling out the feature gradually, so, unfortunately, not everyone will have access immediately.
As part of this release, I’ve put together a screencast that runs through how the integration works and what you can do now that Messenger and Mail are sitting side by side in your browser. Aside from the obvious of being able to instantly connect with 73 million Yahoo! Messenger users worldwide (according to comScore, 12/2006), you also get a seamless experience melding instant messaging with email.
