The Good, The Bad and The Ugly of 2006

Sorry, GQ, another idea I’ve ripped from you.

I guess it’s sort of late for this post, but then with GQ backing the wrong pics for the Oscars, I’d like to make clear what my choices are…

  • Casino Royale: The best Bond movie with the best Bond. Can’t wait for its sequel (rumored to be based on Fleming’s Risico). Awesome (and believable) stunts and great music.
  • Da Vinci Code: Don’t get brainwashed by GQ and SA. This was a good movie. Hanks was a bit wooden faced towards the end, but does it really matter?
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest: Depp reprising his Oscar nominated role in a film scored by Hans Zimmer and shot in the Caribbean. What could be better??
    And then, the mediocre…

  • The Prestige: Are you watching closely? was the tagline. Looks like I was watching a bit too closely. Because, I had the film worked out by the interval, while Eeshan Chatterjee was still completely at sea, even after the credits had rolled. And, David Jullyan made a complete mess of the music.
  • Ice Age II- The Meltdown: Cute and decent little film, but with a predictable storyline.

And finally, take out the trash…
All Hindi movie except RDB and LRM.

Movies I missed…

  • M:I:III: Really don’t know how I managed to miss this one.
  • Superman Returns: Probably had something to do with the fact that I didn’t think Brandon Routh was a worthy successor to Christopher Reeve.
  • Borat: ARE THEY GONNA RELEASE THE DAMN MOVIE IN INDIA OR NOT????

My Top 3 Movies of 2006; and the Worst…

I guess it’s sort of late for this post, but then with the Oscars coming up I’d like to make clear what my choices are…

  • Mission Impossible 3: You thought I wasn’t going to mention this, huh? 😛 Well, you were wrong! How can anyone ignore the best MI ever! Paramount has made a BIG mistake by dropping Tom Cruise. So WHAT if he jumped on Oprah’s couch, she’s got enough cash to afford good laundry services. I don’t think with Brad Pitt in MI4 it’ll be any good.

  • The Departed: It was seriously good, but Martin went over the top in the first few minutes trying to use abuses and get the message out ‘This is an R rated film’. After that, the amazing storyline takes over, and I must say the actors were good, especially Matt and Leo. My only complaint – Martin just blew it in the end, and destroyed his his storyline with the ‘everybody must get killed’ ending; for me, it just gave a bitter taste to a real good movie. Oh, and I hope that Eeshan Chatterjee is still having cranberry juice like he did the other day, or he’ll start getting mood swings. LMAO.

  • Happy Feet: Ending on a fun note, I just love penguins, especially when they don’t get cuddlier and tap-dancier than Mumble! Sheesh, Mumble was CUTE!!!

And then, the movies I’d like to throw rotten tomatoes at…

  • Casino Royale: Somehow, I just can’t stop hating this Neanderthal
  • Da Vinci Code: Audrey Tatou? Who’s even heard of her? And with Tom Hanks, one of the best making a superhuman effort to act stupid, and puppetish, it wasn’t good.

And the ones I missed…

  • Saw 3: I liked the earlier two, but I’ve heard this one ain’t that good. Still I wanted to see it, but as far as I know, LionsGate never did a theatrical release here. Correct me if I’m wrong…
