Google Answers fails

Read it on the Official Google Blog: Adieu to Google Answers

So it’s finally out – Google Answers has failed. Google is shutting down answers, and has stopped accepting new questions. And by the end of the year, it will stop accepting new answers. Its archives will be available for browsing though.

To me, who has always supported Yahoo!, it seems to be a major victory for the open concept of Yahoo! Answers vs the closed (and paid) concept of Google’s. In fact, Yahoo was so elated I guess, that it pretty cheekily posted a goodbye to Google’s service on its Search Blog. I was really sniggering along with the Y1 team after reading it, at the sweet sounding but plainly insulting tone of the post. I guess Google will be smarting from this hit, and the fact that Y! recently refused to help Google Book Search out from its copyright quagmire.

Back to Y! Answers for enlightenment then for now. 😉

Yahoo Answers is a complete waste as far as I see it. The more idiotic questions to which Yahoo has answers does not require us to have a seperate answers section to a website. As always, Google Search maintains simplicity and gives you those results in 0.0001 seconds.

As for Yahoo, they’re more interested in telling us to upgrade to IE7 because of security reasons. Google knows about firefox and Google itself has some phishing protection if you’ve noticed recently.
