Blogger adds transliteration

Hasn’t turned up on MY account yet, but I read on the Google Operating System that Blogger is going to add transliteration for Hindi. Mind that it’s not the same as translation, it will simply convert to Hindi what you type in English. Of course, don’t count on it to work each time, because it’s simple going according algorithms and will be far from perfect. Might give a boost to blogging in India though. Nah, it won’t. But the youth will love it, and will use it a lot, peppering their posts with bits of Hindi at places. Which, IMHO, sucks.

It doesn’t suck. I’ve always wanted a feature like that in the Rich text editor of blogger. Since I am too lazy to type hindi on a word processor and paste the unicode here, I often just forget about it.

Mind you, Google’s translation tools are better than the ever-popular Babelfish service.

I think you misunderstood what I wanted to say. I meant that people writing bits and pieces of their posts in Hindi, like, writing a Hindi word in Hindi while speaking in Hinglish in their post sucks. Of course, if the blog, or the post itself is fully in Hindi then this is a good idea. For blogs fully in Hindi though, I doubt how far this can go.
