Ubuntu 7.04 Isn’t Feisty Fawn…

…It should be renamed Confused Traveler. I’d been among the first ones to order an Ubuntu 7.04 CD via its free media ShipIt program. That was in April. When I didn’t get it by the end of May, that too when all my other friends had got it within one week of their request put in May, I was perplexed. So at the end of May, I put another request for it. Three weeks up, and yet, no sign of the CD. That too when everyone else was getting it within 1-2 weeks of their request. Frankly, I was irritated.

I finally got my CD yesterday, and you know what? Instead of sending it to New Delhi, India, they’d sent it to Jakarta, Indonesia! Here’s an image of the envelope for you all to see…

Ubuntu 7.04 Fiesty Fawn ShipIt CD missent to Jakarta
Update: I’m NOT kidding. JUST when I’d hit the publish button for this, the postman came and handed me the Ubuntu CDs I’d requested for in April!

You should be happy they’re at least taking the effort and sending it to you. No one else does(or if they do, it’s only after Ubuntu).

This has become more of a Ubuntu(and Google) rant blog.

BTW, if you thought switching to wordpress isn’t easy it is now. It’s got a built-in importer(which finally works).

Dude, when I say something I mean it. The wordpress importer never worked for Blogger beta. We had to use a third-party plugin with 2.1 and versions before that.

If you imported blogger beta without any plugins while using 2.1 unlike thousands of other people, lucky you!!!

So…did I say it worked without using a plugin? It worked that’s the point.

Think up some better name instead of Confused traveller. Ubuntu nicknames are always aliterations…
Breezy badger, Hoary hedgehog, and so on…

No that’s not the point. People are scared to use plugins that are not widely tested and are more comfortable using the built in import features.

Guys, you know why the second CD took long? Apparently, because I had written organization as DPS and there was an R K Puram too, the postman did a quick mental 4 + 2 = 42 calculation and had deposited it at DPS RKP! Boy can I imagine Chona fumbling with her specs to figure out this one!

@Prasanth: I couldn’t come up with an alliteration.

@Abhishek & Arjun: WordPress is way better I know. Most Yahoo! official blogs run on it too. Just don’t feel like taking hosting now. I’ll take a GoDaddy account next year for my quizzing site and transition this one too. Anyway, I’d used the WordPress importer with Blogger Beta to transfer to greatquizzard.wordpress.com (I’m cybersquatting) and it worked fine.

Speaking of dimains and importing, guys, I wanted to ask you people something…
I want to get my blog hosted due to several reasons. The problem is that i want to retain my http://luminar.wordpress.com domain. That is because all the sites that link to me are with that URL. Can I have the wordpress domain even after i quit the wordpress hosting redirecting elsewhere? I dont care about my google page rank, but i care about links to my site not getting broken…
I atleast want to my .wordpress domain to redirect to my new domain. Even better, i want to use my old .wordpress domain with my new host. Are any of these to cases possible?
