In a surprising move, Toshiba has decided that maybe HD DVD wasn’t that smart an idea after all; and have decided to back out of the Blu Ray vs HD DVD war. That’s…quite a handful of news actually – because without the bitter uncertainty hanging over users’ heads on which format’s recorders to go in for, the world can now truly take a step into the future and enjoy HD content. Which makes me feel sorry for all those poor customers who happened to end up buying HD DVD stuff – and Xbox 360 users for example, who see their equipment outdated in one stroke of a press release.
Ah well, good that a Microsucks-supported standards lost out. Not that Sony is any paragon of open source, but still…
